Changing Seasons of Perfume and Cologne

Going to a summer barbecue? Chances are you won’t wear the same perfume and cologne that you would wear to the company Christmas party. Different seasons mean different fragrances. It is nice to change it up and gives you something to look forward to. Each season requires some thought on how you want to express yourself through how you dress and how you smell.

The holiday season brings thoughts of spice and a heavier scent. Your perfume and cologne should bring out the holiday spirit. Shopping for your holiday fragrance should happen in the fall, as soon as you feel the spirit kick in. Every year perfume and cologne manufacturers come up with a fantastic collection of scents for the seasons. In a cooler climate perfume stays on your body a longer time so moderate the amount you wear and don’t be surprised if it lasts all day. If you plan going out for the evening be sure to try and maintain the same perfume as there is a better chance a small touch up will be all that is needed.

Spring time brings thoughts of flowers and a light fresh scent. Lighter scents mean fewer oils and more of a body wash or eau de toilette. It probably won’t last as long as the winter scent so you may find yourself applying it more often. There will be less alcohol but the warming of the climate makes it easier to evaporate off the body and into the air. As our thoughts start turning to warmer weather, lighter clothing, and a more leisure attitude. Your choice of fragrance should also be a bit more playful.

Summer time brings warm summer nights and outdoor activities. Think of lush flowers and plants at full bloom. This can be a lot of competition when picking out the proper perfume and cologne for this season. As in winter, the heavier oils last a long time so a little goes a long way. If you find yourself out later than usual you may need to give yourself a booster before going into the late hours of the evening.
Whatever the season, any time is a good time to plan and choose the next season’s new scent. Stop by the cosmetic counter at your favorite retailer and see what new and exciting products they have available.

Have fun with it and enjoy your life one day at a time.

Phermones in perfume and cologne

Since the dawn of man we have wondered what attracts the opposite sex to each other. Good looks and wealth can cover a myriad of other flaws but in the guttural world there is a more powerful attraction that cannot be denied. One of our most powerful senses is our sense of smell. It can change how we feel in an instant. Think of smelling fresh baked cookies, hot out of the oven. It is hard not to desire biting into one. There is an underlying chemical attraction in the animal, and human, world caused by natural pheromones excreted by all living things, including plants. Dogs, cats, lions, tigers, and bears all know when it is time to mate by the pheromones excreted by the female of their species. It is so powerful that they will kill for the opportunity of mating, very similar to TGI Friday’s happy hour. The difference between humans and animals is animals mate to procreate, make babies, where humans do it for fun. Here is where the perfume and cologne companies come into play.

Say you aren’t the most handsome guy in the world and don’t have the savvy or charisma to make the chicks flock to you at the local singles bar. Too bad for you. But wait! there is still hope to take home that hot babe and make her yours. Lucky for you that you read an ad in the back of your current issue of Playboy that touted the effects of bull sperm cologne on the opposite sex. So you buy some, splash it on (kind of sticky) and head out to make that special lady come running in your direction, please don’t wear red or drive by any pastures on the way to the bar.  This obviously a pretty silly, and direct attempt to really increase your chances of scoring with the lady’s, maybe a placebo effect to increase your confidence but that’s about all your fifty bucks is going to buy.

Then why do all the major perfume and cologne companies spend millions of dollars to incorporate pheromones into their most popular fragrances. Well…for one they use pheromones that will attract humans, not cows or other animals. There are laboratory tests, trials, and control groups to find out what attracts and what doesn’t. Their formulas are guarded to make sure someone doesn’t find out and create their own fragrance. I believe this the main difference between original, high end fragrances and knockoffs. To the conscious mind both smell the same but the subconscious is more discerning and is attracted to the formula that has proven results. So, my opinion, stay away from knock off perfume and cologne and spend your time finding the right scent for you to score with the babes.

Good luck with that.

The Organics of the Perfume and Cologne Industry

The majority of perfumes you find at fine retail stores range In alcohol content from 70- 80 %  ( formed through a process using crude oil). For those looking for a healthier approach to perfume and what we put on our bodies, there’s the alternative to natural and organic oils, perfume and colognes that deliver long lasting fragrance, with out the harsh effects of allergies, skin reactions and chemicals. Not to mention healthier for our planet and ecosystem.

Why organic? Organic perfumes are not only a healthier alternative to reducing chemicals from our bodies, but can deliver added benefits. Organic ingredients such as essential oils and nutrients don’t come easy, and are rarely found in regular perfumes.  Distilled water, and natural grain alcohol is also popular ingredients in many organic and sometimes natural perfume products all over the world.
We are surrounded by organic sources. Plants are by far the largest source of fragrant compounds, used by the perfume industry. Everything from the bark of cinnamon, to fragrant flower blooms like cherry blossom, honey suckle, tuberose to even seeds, roots, leaves and wood are used in top, middle and base notes of many fine fragrances as well as organic and natural perfumes.

Another huge factor is… organic perfumes do not use animals to test any of their compounds or products. If you care about the well-being of any living thing, this is a huge consideration. Most would agree this type of testing should not be allowed to happen.

Choosing your next perfume can be a very difficult choice, if organic perfumes are not available off hand, “ Natural” is your second best alternative. Usually perfume and cologne are labeled natural on the box or bottle, Natural perfumes and colognes are usually plant based and sometimes oil based. If you’re looking to avoid allergy aggravating effects and/ or skin reactions, natural perfumes may be your best bet.
There are many companies that deliver the best quality of organic products available, some in which include: Burts Bee’s, Nantucket Natural Oils, NHR organic oils and Aubrey Organic Angelica eau de parfum.
Before buying, usually expect to pay more. If you want something great, quality comes in price. There is also the added cost to process these organic compounds without cheating. Know your labels of intensity. A “perfume”, lasting the longest and strongest in smell, a “eau de parfum”; moderately strong, and eau de toilette; decrease in intensity and time range.

Save the planet!
